If WSS is installed on an alternate v-root and configured to use port 80, then the Default Web Site is not running. Since WSUS installs components to the Default Web Site (always), that v-root must always be running. Our WSUS server is currently running on ports 8530(http) and 8531(https) But it also has resources installed on the Default Web Site (port 80/443), which the WSUS Health Monitoring Service is configured to monitor. When those resources are unavailable (because a Sharepoint - 80 v-root exists), the noted errors are recorded in the Application Event Log.
